-
- =========================
-
- You will be greeted by intro dialogs which use the Double Click Software (C)
- alert box. If you have an alert which merely notifies you of an event,
- use the right button to signify 'OK'. This was done to eliminate the need
- to move the mouse to the 'OK' in simple alerts, often considered a pain by
- myself and others.
-
- Next, several icons will appear at the top, along with a display area for
- text, interaction with a bbs, etc. The icons need be clicked only once
- to get a response. They are:
-
- Phone - autodial menu
- Transfer - upload and download in X-Modem
- Messages - this is temporarily being used to view the capture buffer, which
- is 64K. You can also view the capture buffer by clicking on the right
- button while one of the arrows is present on the right side of the screen.
-
- When in the view buffer, use the left button to scroll a line at a time,
- or the right button to scroll a screen at a time, in the direction of the
- arrow. Use the 'S' or 's' key to save the buffer.
-
- Quit - exits the program.
- Mini-DOS - allows many DOS functions.
- Extras - not implemented in pre-release.
- Database - not implemented in pre-release.
- E-mail - not implemented in pre-release.
-
- In addition, six additional buttons are available on the right hand side of
- the screen, they are:
-
- Echo/No echo - click on this to toggle between echo and no echo.
- 300/1200/etc - click on this until the desired default baud rate is showing.
- When you save a phone file, the default baud rate is also
- saved, and loaded when the program is run. Each autodial
- entry does set the baud rate when you dial.
- Prefix -
-
- * Set up for HAYES compatible commands. Detects connect by message from
- modem, by carrier detect line (in case yours does not support code
- messages), or both.
- * Use redial if connecting by carrier.
- * If connecting by code, redial is optional. ZENITH will automatically
- detect a no carrier, busy, or voice code and redial.
- * Enter the codes which your modem supports, all others, make the best fit
- entry possible. If you have only 300 baud, then enter 1 for hi-speed
- connect. You must also enter the modem init string which will set up your
- modem to return codes instead of english messages, the HAYES standard is
- the default.
- * Enter dialing prefix string used to dial a phone number.
- * Select the method of detection desired.
- - Carrier = only uses carrier detect line to indicate when modem is
- connected to a remote computer. (Must use redial option from auto-dial
- menu for redial)
- - Code = only uses coded return messages from modem to detect when
- phone is busy, connected, voice, etc. ZENITH will redial if it
- gets any of the busy, no carrier, or voice codes.
- - Both = uses both of the above.
-
- * Use both for fastest redial since your modem may detect a busy signal
- faster that redial can time out.
-
- 12:34:56 - this is an option for a clock, not yet implemented, but we are
- including DC CLOCK in this arc file, which is designed to be used
- with ZENITH. Simply run DC CLOCK as described in the documentation
- and then run ZENITH. DC CLOCK works in all resolutions and with
- mostly all programs. We believe you will find DC CLOCK useful all
- the time.
- VT-52 - this puts you into a primitive, still buggy VT-52 mode.
- no capture of text is performed in VT-52 mode.
- Hang-up - hangs up the telephone when you are connected.
-
- USING THE SYSTEM
- ================
-
- Autodial:
-
- FIRST select an entry.
-
- You can edit any entry by double clicking on the right button, or by
- selecting edit.
- You can dial a number by double clicking on the lefft button, by
- selecting dial, or by hitting return.
-
- Features:
-
- * Redial (do not use less than 2 seconds, will never exit unless connected)
- which supports redial time up to 99 seconds.
- * Long distance service.
- * Phone load and save, the default file, which is loaded from the current
- directory at start-up is ZENPHONE.DAT, any other phone file can be loaded.
- * Supports up to 54 entries, which automatically set the baud rate when you
- dial. Other features in edit entry are not used, currently. Scroll
- through the entries in the view area using the arrow buttons (3 pages).
- * Delete, or add an entry. Add an entry will be changed to search for the
- first available spot, right now you must select an entry point to add to.
- Delete is totally destructive for that entry, there is no undo.
- * Manual dial a telephone number. You can enter a number to dial which is
- not on the phone list.
- * In dialing, use hang up icon to quit dialing.
-
- NOTE:
- -----
- At any time, if you see a blue Double Click alert, signified by a Double
- Click Software icon on the left, you simply need press the right mouse button
- to acknowledge the alert.
-
- Uploads and downloads:
-
- * Partially interactive (for the user) uploads and downloads. This will be
- quite extensive in the finished product, but currently, you can use all
- autodial functions while uploading or downloading, as well as many of
- the DOS functions.
- * While you can do other things, caution must be used. Any time you view
- the buffer or a file, format a disk, or see non highlighting (the buttons)
- dialogs, then the transfer is suspended, but not aborted.
- * Use right button during downloads to send a NAK. Use both buttons to
- quit the file transfer. Timeouts occur after 30 seconds of no data
- transfer.
- * In uploads, the total remaining blocks to be sent is displayed along with
- the count of blocks already sent. This will display by the icons on the
- icon bar, but is seen only during upload or download.
-
- Mini-DOS:
-
- * Has many DOS functions.
- * Copy will only copy to and from the same directory path. (Will be changed)
- * Can toggle floppy disk write verify.
- * Format in Mini-DOS allows extended formatting, with the option to use a
- fast sector format scheme. This scheme doubles read and write speed
- when using a 9 sector format. 10 sector format is marginally affected.
-
- Using the file selector:
-
- The file selector is slightly different than the system selector, but has
- some advanced features.
-
- * You can select the drive to go to.
- * Allows you to view disk info, and file info.
- * The button at the top displays the current directory. If you are in a
- sub-directory, you can select this button, then choose the directory
- level you wish to return to from the paths displayed.
-
-
- That's about all I can think of, but there is certainly more, you can probably
- figure out what I left off.
-
- Hope you enjoy this preview, and please send comments.
